Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Director of Mechanical Engineer specializing in Mechanical Systems Design to be a part of our growing engineering practice. The position is located in our Pittston, PA office. The successful candidate will have experience with an A&E Consulting firm leading design, mentoring staff, and interacting with clients. The candidate will be involved from the initial conceptual design to construction close out, for projects across a wide range of industries including healthcare, education, commercial, industrial and mission critical. This position reports to the partners of the Firm.

 

Responsibilities

In this position you are responsible for the overall total management of all aspects of the Mechanical Department.

This position requires an active Pennsylvania Professional Engineering License.


The Director of Mechanical Engineering is responsible for:

  • Reports to the partners about department needs such as manpower, equipment, software, personnel issues, education reimbursement.
  • All necessary quality control on every project; that would include checking, etc.
  • Increasing productivity of department.
  • Establishing design standards and protocols with the goal of producing a consistent product.
  • Developing & Maintaining Standardized details
  • Develop and Maintain, Master Spec’s. specific to SMA needs. Short form drawing and/or word for small projects and book spec for larger ones.
  • Establishing format for design calculations. (Heating/Cooling loads, plumbing water/gas/sanitary/storm lines, Energy analysis, ???)
  • Establishing format of design specific major project equipment.
  • Selecting the software specific to mechanical department needs.
  • Weekly review of all time sheets and evaluations of the mechanical department.
  • Yearly review of salary increases and evaluations of the mechanical department.
  • Develop project requirements in conjunction with project manager (i.e., drawing lists, scope).
  • Recruiting of Staff.
  • Training and Development of Staff.
  • Monitoring of hours for their department on all projects and any change of scope issues.
  • Requesting overtime if they feel that it is required; this could be coordinated with Project Manager.

 

Qualifications

Education/Certifications:

  • BSME/MET/BSAE (or other engineering discipline with applicable experience).
  • Current PE registration is required.
  • LEED AP certification is preferred.
  • Commissioning certification is a plus.

Experience:

  • 10+ years’ experience designing HVAC building systems in technically sophisticated facilities.
  • Have experience writing fee proposals.
  • Have project management experience running projects.
  • Have experience invoicing clients on specific projects.
  • Knowledge of building plumbing and fire protection systems a plus
  • REVIT experience is a plus.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in the use of Trane Trace 700, or Carrier HAP program
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office software packages.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE standards
  • Exhibits thorough understanding of applicable building codes.
  • Inter-personal skills are a must and a positive attitude.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and strict timelines, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to effectively priorities multiple tasks
  • Ability to work effectively individually and within a team environment.
  • Must take ownership of the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of the work assigned to you.
